PRAYING ACCORDING TO GOD’S WILL — THE GUARANTEED PATHWAY TO ANSWERED PRAYER By Rev. Olusola Ayodele Areogun
One of the strongest pillars that upholds confidence in prayer is the revelation of God’s will, God’s promises, and God’s prophecies.
If you do not understand God’s will on a matter, your confidence in prayer will always be shaky and unstable.
1 John 5:14 tells us clearly:
“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He heareth us.”
This means God hears the prayer that is rooted in His will—
not in your emotion,
not in your desperation,
not in your assumptions,
not in your traditions,
not in your eloquence.
God hears His Word.
And His Word reveals His will, establishes His promises, and declares His prophecies.
GOD RESPONDS TO HIS WILL, NOT YOUR WISHES
A believer who prays outside the will of God is merely engaging in religious exercise. Prayer is not a wish list; it is an alignment process.
God’s will is revealed in His Word.
His promises are written.
His prophecies are spoken.
And God is committed to His Word.
No apostle, prophet, bishop, or prayer warrior has an advantage over the written Word.
If a young believer takes the Scripture and prays according to it, God will hear him just as surely as He will hear any seasoned minister.
Confidence in prayer is built on the assurance that God honours His Word.
FIND THE SCRIPTURE BEFORE YOU PRAY
One of the major mistakes believers make is praying without first discovering what God has said.
You must ask:
-
What does the Word say about this matter?
-
What promise has God given?
-
Is there a prophecy that covers my situation?
Just as a wife presents food on a tray to make it acceptable,
you present your prayer on the tray of Scripture to make it answerable.
God does not confirm feelings.
He confirms His Word.
THE POWER OF GOD’S PROMISES
2 Peter 1:3–4 says:
“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature…”
The promises of God are divine tools that raise you to operate at God’s level in prayer.
A promise is like a cheque signed by God.
If He said it, He will do it.
If He promised it, He will perform it.
Abraham did not build his confidence on circumstances;
he built it on the promise.
Romans 4:20 says:
“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief…”
When you anchor your faith on a promise, circumstances lose their power to shake you.
PROPHECY: A WEAPON FOR WARFARE
1 Timothy 1:18 tells Timothy:
“…that thou by them mightest war a good warfare.”
Prophecy is a divine weapon.
It is not a decoration.
It is not for excitement.
It is for battle.
Every genuine prophecy from God becomes a divine instrument for fighting and winning spiritual warfare.
If God has spoken over your life:
-
don’t drop it,
-
don’t forget it,
-
don’t treat it lightly,
-
wage warfare with it.
No ancestral oppression, generational pattern, or satanic resistance can override a prophecy God has spoken — if you hold on to it.
THE PROMISE IS SUPERIOR TO THE CHALLENGE
Romans 4:19 says:
“…he considered not his own body…”
Abraham had two impossible conditions:
-
His body was dead.
-
Sarah’s womb was dead.
Yet the promise of God outweighed both.
Whatever you face today—
medical reports, financial burdens, family crises, delays, personal weaknesses—
cannot outweigh the promise of God.
Your confidence must rest on the promise, not on the problem.
ALIGNMENT PRECEDES ANSWER
It is not how long you prayed that determines the answer.
It is how well you aligned with God’s Word.
Confidence in prayer is therefore built on three things:
🔹 God’s Will — revealed in Scripture
🔹 God’s Promises — written in His Word
🔹 God’s Prophecies — spoken by His Spirit
If you have any of these, you have a solid ground of confidence.
CLOSING PRAYER
Father, open my eyes to Your will.
Let Your promises come alive in my heart.
Teach me to pray according to Your Word.
Strengthen my confidence in Your will, Your promises, and Your prophecies.
Help me to hold fast to what You have spoken concerning my destiny.
In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
