Why God May Refuse to Work in a Man’s Life
Dearly Beloved,
The Holy Spirit has laid it on my heart to highlight a sobering yet vital truth to you: there are conditions under which God may refuse to work in a person’s life. And I’m sure you agree—you don’t want to step into that territory.
Many times, we enjoy God’s workings in our lives—His mercy, favour, help, provision, and protection—without even asking for it. That is how gracious He is. But you must never do anything that causes His workings to stop in your life. Because once that happens, the enemy steps in. There is no vacuum in the spirit.
The true distinction of God’s people is this: God works with them, in them, and for them.
Don’t lose that divine partnership.
So, why does God refuse to work in someone’s life? Let’s take a closer look.
- When You Try to Use God for Your Own Agenda
You cannot use God to accomplish your own ends. He won’t cooperate with that.
Your life must be connected somewhere to God’s eternal purpose.
Think of Hannah: God intervened in her barrenness when her desire for a child aligned with God’s need for a prophet.
Until your life is aligned with His purpose, you may be struggling with opposition and frustration.
- When Your Focus Is the Benefits, Not the Fellowship
Don’t approach God only for what you can get from Him.
God wants to make you before He gives you.
And He makes men in the place of intimacy and fellowship.
Remember what God told Moses in Exodus 24:12:
“Come up to Me on the mountain and be there…”
Only after that did God say, “…and I will give you tablets of stone…”
God gives after you have been with Him. Prioritise His presence over His presents.
- When You Treat God as a Force, Not a Person
God is not just an “influence” or an impersonal power.
He is a Person who desires relationship—He wants to talk with you, help you, guide you, and receive your burdens.
Don’t reduce Him to a mere spiritual force. Relate with Him.
- When There Is Unrepented Sin in Your Heart or Leadership
Sin will stop the hand of God.
Psalm 66:18: “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.”
Isaiah 59:1-2: Our sins separate us from God, not because He is weak, but because holiness cannot mix with iniquity.
Let no hidden sin hinder His hand in your life.
- When You Reject God’s Word or His Counsel
God will not work where His Word is rejected.
The Israelites carried the ark into battle, but were defeated because they had already rejected God’s counsel.
Interestingly, the same ark that couldn’t help them caused havoc in the camp of the Philistines, defeating their god Dagon.
Never let rebellion take you to a place where God refuses to work in your life.
- When You Run with Your Own Plan or Agenda
You cannot succeed with a life plan that God didn’t author.
One young minister insisted he would marry a nurse because he liked the white uniform. He married her—but at what cost?
Ladies, don’t come to God with a secret list and then ask for divine leading. That’s idolatry in disguise.
When your heart is already made up, God will not lead you.
A familiar spirit will take advantage of that, and the outcome will be managed, not enjoyed.
- When Your Mouth Is Full of Arguments Instead of Praise
God steps back when your lips are full of grumbling.
Instead of arguing, praise Him—even while you wait for the details to fall into place.
That’s where patience comes in: the grace to endure the passage of time while God is working.
- When You Use Carnal or Satanic Methods to Fulfil Divine Vision
God has His own way of fulfilling His plan. Don’t bring human or satanic alternatives into His holy work.
Abraham and Ishmael.
Moses and the murder of the Egyptian.
In these cases, men tried to “help God” with fleshly methods, and He withdrew.
There are three sources of results:
- Natural Results – Human effort and labour
- Satanic Results – Through sin, crime, or occultism
- Divine Results – Supernatural fruit from the LORD
Only divine results should be your goal as a child of God.
Don’t rush to go buy a visa when God promised to take you abroad without finding out how. You’ll forfeit His partnership through your shortcuts.
In Conclusion…
When God stops working in a man’s life, the devil steps in. Don’t let that happen.
Check your life and realign quickly wherever needed.
Stay connected. Stay surrendered. Stay usable.
Until next time,
Go and win with Jesus.
